What Does CBD Taste Like

What is CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It’s a type of cannabinoid extracted from the hemp plant which happens to be a part of the cannabis family. However, CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive effects as THC does. Instead, it’s supposed to be therapeutic. It also differs from regular/medical marijuana in the sense that the traces of THC are limited. The legal THC limit for CBD products is <0.3%. This is why CBD products including oil cannot get you high.

Where Can You Buy CBD Oil?

CBD oil is easy to get hands-on. Most physical stores in places where CBD is legal will have them. But, if you would like to shop online, you can visit stores like Industrial Hemp Farms that carry a line of highest quality CBD and hemp products.

Should CBD Have Any Taste?

Whether or not cannabidiol should have a taste really depends on a lot of factors. But, before that, let’s take a look at the main forms in which CBD extract is available:

  • Isolate CBD: This type of cannabidiol carries nothing but the purest form of CBD. This is why it won’t have any flavorful taste (due to the absence of terpenes). It, therefore, tastes bitter.
  • Full-Spectrum CBD: Being full-spectrum means that the CBD oil product contains a full-range of everything that the plant has to offer including terpenes, other oils present in the plant, and a little bit of THC. Products containing full-spectrum CBD oil tend to be the strongest in taste.
  • Broad-Spectrum CBD: This one has no THC whatsoever. Therefore, it might taste a bit different from the full-spectrum cannabidiol.

In short, the oil will carry little to no taste when you talk about broad and full-spectrum CBD oil. The isolate one generally has a milder taste. However, you would want to avoid any CBD products that have any of the following taste profiles:

Sweet: Many companies will add sweeteners to their CBD product. The idea is to mask the taste which a lot of people find off-putting. Avoid those because sugar is anyways not good for you. Instead, you can always go for items that come in peppermint and other natural flavors.

Flavorings: Natural flavors are okay. However, steer clear of products that contain unnatural, toxic, and artificial flavoring agents.

Dyes: There’s no point trying to change/alter the natural color of hemp or CBD oil. Even then, a lot of companies would add dyes to their products. They do that so the product could appeal to a certain type of customer. But, an informed customer would know better than to resort to products containing dyes.

Contaminants: If you come across a cheap tasting CBD product, you have good reasons to believe that it could be carrying some potentially dangerous contaminants. One way to avoid such products is to look for lab testing reports from the vendor before buying the product. Ideally, these reports should be available on their online stores.

What Should CBD Oil Taste Like?

You should stop using the product at once if you notice anything odd/unusual about the overall flavoring of it. Ideally speaking, CBD oil should have earthy tones. It should have a taste profile similar to that of a walnut or sunflower seeds.

Is it Possible to ‘Hack’ the Taste of CBD?

Yes, it is very much possible to hack CBD oil’s taste and modify it to your liking. A lot of people don’t like the way it tastes. But, the good thing is, you can alter the taste so you don’t have to deal with the off-putting earthy and grassy tones.

If you’re looking for easy ways to make this oil taste more appetizing and easy to stomach, here are some of them:

  • Wash it down with Water – This is easily the most convenient way to deal with the un-appetizing taste of CBD oil. Just have a glass of water handy. Wait about a minute after your tongue has absorbed the oil; then quickly wash it down with water by taking a few quick gulps of it. You can also go for a glass of juice or a cup of coffee.
  • Have a chewing gum or mint handy – You can either chew it right after you have consumed the oil or you can wait a while before popping it in your mouth. This is an excellent and cheap way to mitigate the taste of CBD. Ideally, you should go for a strongly flavored mint in order to subdue the residual taste. While it may not completely hide the taste, it will surely help you forget it.
  • Brush your teeth afterward – If you don’t want to remain smelling of CBD oil, you can always brush your teeth afterward. Although it’s not something that the majority will do, if you want to completely get rid of the taste, this is a good option to resort to.
  • Blend it into edibles – If you don’t want to get CBD into your system sublingually, you can add it to juices and smoothies. You can even add it to baked items. Alternatively, you can add it to things like yogurt, milk, coffee, etc. This is clearly the best way to stomach CBD oil without having to deal with its bitter taste.
  • Go for CBD Capsules – If you just don’t want to deal with the hassle of adding CBD oil to edibles or mask the taste with beverages, you can avoid the trouble altogether by opting for capsules. These capsules are flavorless and odorless. You should have no trouble finding good quality capsules online. Just make sure to buy them in your preferred dosage, swallow them with water, and carry on with your day.

Final Thoughts

CBD is not entirely unbearable if you talk about the taste. If you are accustomed to bitter-tasting things, it shouldn’t bother you.

Besides, it’s only a matter of time before you’re used to CBD’s taste. If not, you can always resort to the ‘hacks’ we mentioned earlier.
